The Gentle Yoga Online Course is a 50-hour continuing education program for yoga teachers and movement professionals who want to offer accessible, inclusive, and well-supported classes.

Gentle Yoga combines gentle mobilization and stretching, calming breathwork, supported postures, and guided relaxation to encourage ease, body awareness, and steady attention. The practice is suitable for the general population and can be adapted for a wide range of abilities, fitness levels, and life stages. As a non-dogmatic, non-religious approach, Gentle Yoga is accessible to people of all backgrounds and beliefs.

Teaching After Completion

Registered yoga professionals may teach Gentle Yoga immediately under their existing membership. Fitness and movement professionals should confirm scope of practice and insurance requirements with their organization.

This course is a continuing education program and does not replace a 200-hour or 350-hour Yoga Teacher Training.

Assessment

The program includes two assessment components:
1. A multiple-choice quiz
2. A self-assessed practice teaching component

For practice teaching, you’ll teach five Gentle Yoga classes to a range of volunteers and complete a reflective journal. This encourages thoughtful self-assessment, including what worked well, what felt challenging, areas for improvement, and student feedback.

Once all coursework is complete, you’ll receive your certificate of completion.

Using this Program in Your Teaching

You are welcome to:
• Teach the Gentle Yoga sequences as presented in the course, or
• Integrate movements and techniques into other mind-body classes, private sessions, or movement programs.

There is no set ‘choreography’ and no restrictions on how the material is used. We encourage you to draw on your own experience, creativity, and professional judgement to create balanced and effective programming for your clients.

  • Techniques, Training & Practice: 40 primary poses and 96 techniques, 5 breathwork techniques, guiding relaxation
  • Professional Essentials: Teaching skills and strategies, cuing, demonstration, regressions and progressions, helpful props, special populations, risk management, practice guidelines, marketing and managing group classes, practice teaching.
  • Anatomy and Physiology: nervous system, stress and the body, principles of movement, muscular system and it’s role in Gentle Yoga.
  • Yoga Humanities: foundations of Gentle Yoga, five core concepts, how we teach, code of ethics.

  • Techniques, Training & Practice: 30.7 hours
  • Professional Essentials: 17.1 hours
  • Yoga Humanities: 1 hour
  • Anatomy & Physiology: 2.6 hours

Is this Program a Yoga Teacher Training?

No, this is a continuing education program designed for those with an existing background in movement instruction. To becoming a Registered Yoga Instructor, a minimum training of 200-hours is required. For details see our Yoga Teacher Training, or visit your national yoga membership/registration body.

Program Policies

  • You have 24 months to complete your coursework – but we recommend completing the coursework, practice, and practice teaching within a 4-8 week period to ensure best learning and retention.
  • Once your training portal details have been provided, the program is non-refundable.
  • If you do not complete your coursework within the 24-month coursework period, you can purchase a 3-month coursework extension.
  • If a technical issue exists with any course materials replacement links will be provided at no cost.
  • If you choose not to complete the program, it may not be transferred to another person.
  • If a student does not complete the coursework with a passing grade of 80%, they are able to retake the assessment at any time.
  • Certificates are awarded only after receipt of all coursework including practice teaching journals and completed course assessment.
